The MHRA granted a UK marketing authorisation for lurbinectedin with atezolizumab as maintenance treatment for eligible adults with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer. In the 483-person study cited by the regulator, median overall survival was 13.2 months with the combination versus 10.6 months with atezolizumab alone; UK authorisation does not itself establish NHS funding or availability.
The Medical Research Council is investing £50m over 14 years in a University of Birmingham-led centre to study immune-mediated inflammatory diseases and develop potential therapies. The award establishes research capacity; no cure has yet been demonstrated.
NICE has recommended trastuzumab deruxtecan (Enhertu) for routine NHS use in England for eligible people with HER2-low advanced breast cancer after chemotherapy. Around 1,000 people a year are expected to become eligible for the targeted treatment.

University Hospitals Plymouth and Willmott Dixon have completed the structural frame of Derriford Hospital's four-storey Emergency Care Building. The first Wave 1 New Hospital Programme scheme to begin main construction is due for completion in April 2029 and will provide close to twice the capacity of the existing emergency department.
