Current position

HS2’s August 2026 project information describes the new station and its large arched roof as part of the ongoing construction programme.

Why it matters

The new terminus is planned for Birmingham’s Eastside, a short walk from Moor Street and with a tram stop under the station on the extension towards Digbeth. Its broad arched roof is a central part of the design. The plans also include public squares, accessible routes and cycle parking, so the station’s streets and interchange matter as much as the platforms.

Benefits

  • A new interchange with tram, bus and nearby Moor Street services, supporting regeneration around Birmingham’s Eastside.
