Devilla 500 MW BESS
Devilla is a 500 MW, two-hour lithium-ion battery storage project at Kincardine, developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners with Alcemi. The transmission-connected facility is intended to support grid stability and integration of renewable electricity.[1]
Current position
CIP announced Devilla’s investment decision and notice to proceed on 8 January 2025. Its 8 June 2026 update confirms construction is under way and forecasts commissioning in 2028; CIP is retaining a majority stake while agreeing minority investments from the Scottish National Investment Bank and Nuclear Liabilities Fund.
Benefits
- The battery would store renewable electricity and return it to the grid when needed. Its operation is supported by a ten-year optimisation agreement with SSE and a 15-year capacity-market agreement.
