Field Rigifa BESS

Field Rigifa is a consented 200 MW / 3,600 MWh battery project in Caithness. Its planned storage duration is 18 hours.[1][2]

Current position

Planning consent has been secured for the Rigifa battery. The Scottish Energy Consents Unit records a determination on 9 July 2026.

Long-duration storage would absorb surplus renewable electricity and supply it when generation falls.

The consented Caithness battery is designed for 200 MW of power and 3,600 MWh of stored energy, providing 18 hours of storage.
