Fischer Farms — Norfolk Super Farm

Fischer Farms operates a commercial vertical farm at Food Enterprise Park, west of Norwich. The £25 million facility grows leafy vegetables and herbs indoors using stacked cultivation systems and controlled growing conditions. The building was reported complete in 2022; the equipped farm was completed and in production in 2023.[1][2][3]

The facility

The farm provides approximately 25,000 m² of cumulative growing space within an approximately four-acre site. Multiple growing levels increase the cropping area within the ground footprint, while lighting, temperature, humidity, irrigation and nutrient supply are managed indoors.

Clegg Food Projects delivered the building and integrated its growing systems. The facility combines LED lighting and automated environmental control with harvesting and crop-handling infrastructure.

The facility was designed to produce up to 6.5 tonnes of leafy vegetables and herbs per day, equivalent to approximately 72,000 small salad bags. This is design capacity; independently verified current throughput is unavailable.

Agricultural technology

Vertical cultivation concentrates production into a smaller land area and allows year-round growing under controlled conditions. The farm uses engineered lighting, controlled irrigation and crop-environment management.

Actual daily output and comparative energy, water and crop-yield performance have not been independently established. Future updates can record verified changes in installed growing technology, physical capacity and measured productivity.

Why it matters

The farm is a completed UK deployment of industrial-scale vertical growing technology. Its facilities provide a basis for tracking future changes in engineering, automation, production and resource use.
