Hams Hall 350 MW BESS

BW ESS and AIP Management are building Hams Hall battery energy storage facility near Kingsbury in North Warwickshire. The first phase will provide 350 MW of power and 1,243 MWh of storage. A further 50 MW phase is planned, taking the full development to 400 MW and 1,424 MWh.[1][2]

Current position

Both 400 kV, 220 MVA grid transformers were energised on 30 September 2026, allowing commissioning to progress. BW ESS targets commercial operation of the first phase in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Benefits

  • The batteries will store electricity for use when it is needed. EDF has a ten-year agreement to optimise the first phase, coordinating its operation in the electricity market.
