Lansdowne Monument Restoration

National Trust conservation of the Grade II* Lansdowne Monument on Cherhill Down. The project repairs the 38-metre obelisk’s damaged masonry, quoins, pointing and plinth.[1][2]

Current position

Specialist access scaffolding was installed by 7 October 2026 to support continuing masonry repairs. Conservation is under way; completion and removal from the Heritage at Risk register are not confirmed.

Benefits

  • Conserves the monument’s historic stonework and addresses the deterioration that required protective scaffolding.
