Learielaw battery storage

Learielaw is a planned battery storage facility near Broxburn in West Lothian, being developed by ILI Group. It would store electricity for use when it is needed, helping the grid accommodate changes in renewable generation and demand. The approved scheme would be able to supply up to 100 megawatts of power to the electricity network.[1][2][3]

Current position

Scottish Ministers granted consent on 19 May 2025. The project remains at the approved stage in the evidence reviewed; a construction start and opening date have not been confirmed.

Benefits

  • By charging when electricity is available and releasing it later, the batteries would help balance supply and demand and support the use of renewable power.
