Leeds Bradford Airport Terminal Regeneration

LBA:REGEN expands and refurbishes Leeds Bradford Airport’s terminal. The extension opened in 2025; refurbishment continues through later security and arrivals phases.[1][2]

Current position

Leeds Bradford Airport opened its Central Search Zone on 5 October 2026, with three extra-long security lanes operating. The airport rates each lane at up to 600 passengers an hour, compared with around 350 previously. The hall includes six boarding-pass eGates, queue-management technology and new scanners. Electronics and liquids in containers of no more than 100ml can remain in hand luggage. Two further lanes are planned by the end of 2026, when the airport expects overall screening capacity to double. These are equipment-capacity figures; measured reductions in passenger queueing have not been reported.

Benefits

  • The operator reports that the extension increased terminal floor space by 38% and seating by 83%. The new central security search zone adds processing capacity within the enlarged terminal. These are facility capacity measures, rather than measured reductions in queueing.
  • The security hall provides dedicated routes for passengers requiring assistance and Fast Track users, Leidos baggage-screening equipment and Rohde & Schwarz body scanners. The six eGates scan boarding passes.
