A new specialist cancer hospital for south-east Wales, under construction and fit-out on Northern Meadow at Whitchurch. Access for the digital team began in September 2026; this is preparation for clinical services, not an opening to patients. The new parcel is separate from the existing Velindre hospital.[1][2][3]
Velindre’s digital team has gained phased access to the new cancer centre’s IT rooms to install and test its network. The centre is scheduled to open in spring 2027.
Velindre has begun its first phased handover to the NHS Trust, giving the digital team access to install and test the network infrastructure. The Trust describes this as the transition from construction towards an operational healthcare facility. Opening to patients remains scheduled for spring 2027.
