Noriker Kilmarnock South battery storage

Construction is under way on the 350-megawatt Kilmarnock South battery at Camsiscan Farm in South Ayrshire. Developed by Noriker and backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, the facility is designed to store electricity for several hours before supplying it back to the grid. Commercial operation is targeted for early 2028.[1]

Current position

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has taken its final investment decision for the 350 MW / 1,400 MWh Kilmarnock South battery developed by Noriker. Construction is under way, with commercial operation targeted for the first quarter of 2028. This is distinct from Zenobē’s operating Kilmarnock South battery and Matrix’s consented energy centre.

Benefits

  • Its planned 1,400-megawatt-hour capacity would support up to four hours of supply at full output, helping balance the grid as renewable generation varies.
  • Battery units are being arranged on landscaped terraces to fit the sloping site, with planted areas incorporated into the layout.
