North Lanrigg Energy Storage

North Lanrigg is an approved 200-megawatt battery storage project in North Lanarkshire, south of the M8. It would provide a place to store electricity between the time it is generated and the time it is needed. Consent was granted in July 2025, with an opening date still to be confirmed.[1]

Benefits

  • The batteries would give the electricity network more flexibility to match changing demand with available generation, including renewable power.
