Statkraft Neilston expansion

Statkraft has consent to expand Neilston Greener Grid Park to a total battery power capacity of 750 megawatts, including its initial 50-megawatt stage. The development near Neilston would combine electricity storage with equipment that helps keep the grid stable. Work on the first stage and delivery of the wider expansion follow separate schedules.[1][2]

Current position

The Neilston capacity expansion to 750 MW is consented. Statkraft forecasts construction completion and storage operation for the initial 50 MW stage in 2026; no whole-expansion operational date is confirmed.

Benefits

  • The batteries would store electricity for later use and help maintain a stable electricity supply as more renewable generation joins the grid.
  • Statkraft proposes an annual £20,000 community benefit fund for the project.
