Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities

Oxford’s Schwarzman Centre brings seven humanities faculties, a library and public arts spaces together in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter.[1]

Current position

The Centre opened to the public on 25 April 2026; its Open House drew 12,000 visitors, according to the venue.

Why it matters

The Schwarzman Centre combines seven Oxford humanities faculties and research space with venues that the public can use: a 500-seat concert hall, theatre, cinema, exhibition space and the Bodleian Humanities Library. Its academic opening in October 2025 and public programme in April 2026 are distinct stages of the same completed building.

Benefits

  • A 500-seat concert hall, 250-seat theatre, cinema and exhibition spaces, alongside shared teaching and research facilities.
