Tina’s Haven Nature Reserve

The National Trust and Durham Heritage Coast Partnership have created a 34-hectare nature reserve on former farmland at Warren House, Horden. Initial works established woodland, wood pasture, grassland, hedgerows, ponds and wetlands, extending the coastal habitat corridor between Horden and Seaham.[1][2]

Current position

The Heritage Fund’s October 2026 case study records the reserve as created. Completed refers to the initial 2024–26 habitat works; the reserve continues to require management and monitoring.

Project details

  • The National Trust acquired the field in 2023.
  • Around 21,000 trees and shrubs were planted during reserve creation. The young planting will take time to establish.
