Tone Works Restoration

Somerset Council’s phased conservation of Tone Works, the historic textile dyeing and finishing works in Wellington. It is a separate site from neighbouring Tonedale Mill.[1]

Current position

Restoration and decontamination are under way, including repairs to the Finishing Shed roof. The reported capital allocation totals £8.371 million following the £4.695 million funding transfer announced in 2026; this is not a whole-site reopening commitment.

Benefits

  • Roof and structural repairs, asbestos removal and safeguarding of historic machinery conserve the industrial buildings while long-term reuse is developed.
