Twyn Hywel Energy Park

Bute Energy is building a 14-turbine onshore wind farm on Eglwysilan Common in South Wales.

Construction began at Twyn Hywel Energy Park in June 2026. The development will have up to 93.8 MW of generating capacity, with turbines reaching a maximum height of 200 metres. Bute Energy secured £160 million of project debt financing from Lloyds and Rabobank after obtaining planning consent. It is the first wind farm in the developer’s Welsh portfolio to reach construction.[1][2][3][4]

Current position

Construction is under way following the June 2026 financing agreement. The developer’s current programme targets first electricity in late 2027 and full operation in early 2028, with final testing and restoration work extending into winter 2028.

What is being built

  • The project includes turbine foundations, access tracks, a substation and a control building. Underground cables will connect the turbines to the electricity network at Cilfynydd.
  • Knights Brown is delivering the main civil engineering works, H&MV Engineering the electrical infrastructure, and Nordex the turbines. Construction proceeds from access and groundworks to turbine installation and electrical connections.
  • The wind farm will add up to 93.8 MW of onshore wind capacity once operational. Bute Energy estimates annual output equivalent to the electricity used by around 81,000 homes.
  • The developer plans an annual community benefit fund of around £704,000 during the wind farm’s operating life.
  • The marker identifies a representative site point on Eglwysilan Common, recorded in the official renewable-energy project register.
