Wednesbury–Dudley–Merry Hill Metro extension
The West Midlands Metro is being extended from Wednesbury through Tipton and Dudley to Merry Hill in Brierley Hill. The new line will connect these Black Country communities to the existing tram network. Delivery is phased: the Dudley section is undergoing testing and commissioning, while construction continues towards Merry Hill.[1]
Current position
Test trams are running on the first section to Dudley, ahead of driver training and passenger services. Construction continues on the Merry Hill section, which is expected to open in 2028.
Benefits
- The extension is intended to improve access to jobs, shops and services across the Black Country and provide a public transport alternative to car journeys.
