Wimbledon Expansion

The Wimbledon Park expansion would add grass courts and an 8,000-seat show court on the former golf course opposite the existing grounds.[1][2]

Current position

The High Court ruled in the club’s favour on the statutory-trust issue in March 2026; opponents said they would appeal and a separate planning challenge remained.

Why it matters

The former golf course sits across Church Road from the existing Wimbledon grounds. The masterplan proposes 39 new grass courts, including space to bring qualifying matches to Wimbledon, and a show court within a landscape that would open land previously reserved for golf to the public. The masterplan integrates the courts and public parkland.

Benefits

  • The scheme would bring the qualifying tournament onto the same site as the Championships and create new publicly accessible parkland.
