NHS evaluation finds AI skin triage can release dermatology capacity

A study of 8,391 patients at two Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust hospitals found that autonomous AI triage could release capacity equivalent to more than 8,500 dermatology appointments over 16 months.

DERM discharged around a quarter to a third of referrals without clinician review, with higher-risk cases passed to teledermatologists. The findings, presented at the EADV congress, estimate a 62% capacity gain; the additional appointments are an equivalent capacity measure rather than appointments already delivered.
