Shropshire hospital opens new operating theatre for up to 1,200 more operations a year

A new operating theatre has opened at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry, increasing the specialist hospital's surgical facilities from 13 to 14 theatres.

The new facility performed its first operation on 23 October and is expected to provide capacity for an additional 1,000 to 1,200 procedures each year. The hospital has recruited 37 members of staff to support the expansion.

The theatre opened ahead of its original January timetable and includes modern surgical equipment and ultraclean ventilation, strengthening the hospital's ability to treat patients from Shropshire, Wales and beyond.
