980 Great West Road Housing Development

Hadley’s redevelopment of the former GSK headquarters at 980 Great West Road would create a residential neighbourhood beside the River Brent in Brentford, reusing parts of the existing campus.[1][2]

Current position

Studio Egret West announced planning committee approval on 6 March 2026. The approved design retains the basement, substructure and 2 principal buildings, with 61% of the site planned as publicly accessible open space.

Benefits

  • The approved scheme comprises 2,324 homes and accommodation units, including 506 student-accommodation units and 296 co-living units. Its conventional housing includes 227 social-rent and 90 intermediate homes.
  • More than 300,000 sq ft of commercial, community and educational space is planned, alongside riverside access, gardens and play areas. Hadley describes retaining around 60% of the existing structure; the retained buildings include the former headquarters tower.
