Project facts
Location: Kingston Park, Peterborough
Operator: Amazon
Status: Completed — opened October 2026
Investment: £107 million
Building: 690,000 square feet (approximately 64,100 m²)
Infrastructure and technology
Its storage system can hold up to 16 million items, with a designed handling rate of up to five million items each week. These are design capacities and should not be confused with verified realised daily or weekly throughput.
The centre incorporates computer-vision inspection for incoming pallets and a large fleet of powered industrial handling vehicles with collision-sensing equipment. Its layout supports movement of stock between inbound goods reception, high-density storage and outbound distribution.
Operation and ramp-up
Local reporting on 16 October counted about 400 employees working at the new operation; the company targets 1,400 jobs as throughput increases. Its launch establishes a new model of national replenishment designed to reduce intermediate handling and improve stock availability at fulfilment centres.
Why it matters
The completed £107m warehouse conversion introduces a new layer of logistics capacity and deployed material-handling technology to Amazon's UK network. Future progress should be measured through throughput, automation and processing efficiency, not routine publicity.
