Havant Thicket Reservoir

Portsmouth Water is building an 8.7-billion-litre reservoir north of Havant, with two pipelines to fill it from local springs and supply water when needed.[1][2]

Current position

Pipeline tunnelling was launched on 24 September 2026; reservoir construction and pipeline work are ongoing.

Benefits

The 7 km pipeline programme uses microtunnelling through residential areas; the reservoir is intended to improve regional water resilience and reduce abstraction from chalk streams.

Pipeline tunnelling begins for Havant Thicket Reservoir

Work on the pipelines serving the Havant Thicket Reservoir has entered the tunnelling stage. Portsmouth Water says the route totals 7 km and will be built in sections; this is a construction milestone, not completion of the reservoir.
