St Peter’s Church, Forncett — Heritage Restoration

Grade I-listed St Peter’s Church in Forncett has been restored after deterioration threatened its historic fabric. Its round tower dates from around AD 1000; much of the church was built in the later Middle Ages.[1][2]

Current position

The major repairs were completed in March 2026. Parishioners and supporters celebrated the church’s reopening on 25 October.

Benefits

  • The restoration repaired the nave and chancel roofs, south aisle, flintwork and masonry, and installed new drainage. It protects features including medieval carved pew ends, an ancient wooden staircase and a 15th-century alabaster tomb.
  • The project also created a local heritage film and three heritage and nature trails.
