First new Welsh-built trains enter service on Cambrian Coast Line

Passengers on the Cambrian Coast Line have begun travelling on new Welsh-built Class 197e trains, replacing rolling stock that has served the route for more than 30 years.

Transport for Wales introduced the first three trains between Machynlleth and Pwllheli from 19 October, bringing air-conditioning, improved Wi-Fi, charging points, bilingual information screens and more accessible accommodation. Sections of platforms at six stations have also been raised to make boarding easier.

The introduction is part of a wider £800 million programme of new trains across Wales and the borders, with more of the Class 197e fleet due to join Cambrian services over the coming months.
