They will replace Class 323 trains across Manchester and the wider North West, adding carriages, air conditioning and luggage space. Refurbishment is scheduled from October 2027 to February 2029; around five trains are expected in passenger service from early 2028, with further units following over two years.
Northern confirms funded upgrade of 37 trains for the North West
